RMVR and The Morgan Adams Foundation are auctioning a beautifully restored 1973 Elden MK10 Formula Ford.  This race-ready car is being offered for sale with the entire proceeds going to benefit The Morgan Adams Foundation.  The sale will be held via an online auction on Bring-A-Trailer (bringatrailer.com) starting in mid-July, 2024.  The auction winner will be announced at the Race Against Kids’ Cancer event.

1973 Elden MK10 Formula Ford

LCH Restoration, owned and operated by a long-time RMVR member,  generously donated the car to The Morgan Adams Foundation and is an accomplished race car restorer having successfully restored and raced four Elden Formula Fords as well as other race cars. “Too many cars” and a desire to help MAF drove the decision to donate this car to benefit MAF.

About The Car
The car’s Arch Motors chassis number, #AM73-74, denotes the car was built in 1973 and was the 74th built that year.

History Of This Car
This car was purchased by the restorer in Oct. of 2015 from the estate of J.T. Newland (Cleveland, OH). Mr. Newland raced it from approximately 1973 to 1979 but then retired the car to storage where it resided until being sold by his estate to LCH in 2015.

The Restoration
The restoration of AM73-74 didn’t start until 2017 due to other projects taking precedence. Upon inspection it was determined the car was totally square, no apparent chassis damage and with no chassis modifications. That is, it was a very original, sound chassis. So restoration was begun.

  • Radiator was changed to a front radiator configuration (Like some prior year models). This car was originally a “C” model (with side radiators) but during the restoration it was converted to “B” Model (front radiator) for better cooling. (The “C” model side radiators proved to be less efficient cooling and Eldon even went back to front radiator cars.) New front aluminum radiator. Changed nose for the front radiator configuration.
  • Engine was prepared in 2019 by Total Precision Engines (Pete Christensen – totalprecisionengines.com). Prepared to legal Formula Ford specs with new CP pistons, rods, and a new block. Motor has an iron head. Dyno sheet available.
  • The Hewland MK9 transmission was fully inspected, setup to factory specs, new seals and cosmetically restored. The tranny is currently geared for Colorado tracks.
  • Bonded Aluminum floor added.
  • Added new Harmon fuel cell.
  • Added a removable Momo steering wheel (Original steering wheel in spares).
  • Upgraded dash gauges.
  • Fabricated newer Elden designed front sway bar.
  • Fabricated improved transaxle shifter linkage.
  • Added the long tail rear body work with an added NACA duct in rear body work for oil cooler.
  • Paint provided by Sick and Twisted, Farmington, NM
  • Wheels upgraded to Weller Alloy from steel Dunlop wheels. Original Dunlop (painted in same color scheme) are included in spares.
  • New Hoosier Spec FF tires mounted upon restoration. Three race weekends on them.
  • New safety Pyrotect FIA harness (good until 2028), 2” shoulder for use with Hans.
  • On-board fire system shows “OK” per gauge.
  • Spares included: (4) Dunlop Steel wheels painted to match car, four additional gear sets with a neat wooden carrying gear case, extra stub axles, and more.

As part of its shake down, the car has been raced occasionally since 2017. RMVR Logbook indicates only three race weekends since restoration was completed.  Thus this car is ”Race-Ready” for its new owner.

The car auction will be on a Bill of Sale, F.O.B. Denver including its RMVR logbook, meticulous post-race notes, engine dyno sheet, spares etc.
